Our first stop was the bustling downtown area for a day of shopping and food. I live in Austin and our mall is anything but impressive, most of my shopping here is done at local boutiques (hint: Mana Culture). The San Francisco shopping center was incredible, albeit overwhelming.
After being stalked by every Nordstrom employee, we wanted something a lil more low key. So we stopped for burgers and garlic cheese fries at Super Duper Burger; if I can describe the food as anything, it's Super Duper! Didn't break

The next day was spent enjoying all the natural beauty Northern California has to offer. First we crossed the terrifying Golden Gate bridge and passed through the Rainbow/Waldo Bridge (but didn't honk) to get to Sonoma, where we enjoyed acres of vineyards, wine and olive oil tastings and an incredible brunch at The Girl and the Fig. The food was delicious and tasted of Autumn, but TGTF's claim to fame (for me) is their cocktail and wine menu. Ever tried a French Champagne and Fig Liqueur cocktail? Neither had I, but when in Cali, eat and drink figs! The cocktail was light, refreshing and unexpected.

To recap, in two days I went to wine country, the beach and a bustling downtown all within 20 minutes of one another. Northern California is truly a remarkable region; I now want to add "Go back to Northern California as #31" ... perhaps a 40 Before 40 is in order?
happy travels,
